Fact Check: Video of a woman in an open burqa walking in Saudi Arabia misrepresented as footage from Pakistan

A video circulating online depicts a woman walking on a paved sidewalk at night, wearing an open burqa that reveals her lower body. While the footage has been widely shared with assertions that it was filmed in Pakistan, our investigation found that the location is actually Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The background clearly shows the Marriott Executive Apartments Riyadh, Convention Center. Additionally, there is no credible or verified evidence to substantiate the claim that the video originated in Pakistan.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter), propaganda account @RealBababanaras wrote, “The effect of spring effect has started in Pakistan also. Video from Islamabad.”

Another propaganda account, @FrontalForce, also shared the video and wrote, “The effect of spring effect has started in Pakistan also. Video from Islamabad.”

The truth about the video shared as Pakistan, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video. We found that the video was not from Pakistan but an outdated video from Saudi Arabia.

To verify the users’ claims, we conducted a reverse image search on keyframes from the viral video using Google Lens. This led us to a Facebook post featuring the same building seen in the video’s background. The post suggested that the building is the Marriott Executive Apartments Riyadh Convention Center. Following this lead, we performed relevant keyword searches and found the official Facebook account of Marriott Executive Apartments Riyadh, where similar photos (1, 2) were available. Additionally, we located the place on Google Maps. After analyzing the location, we determined that the video was recorded from the footpath in front of Greer Accommodation.” However, we couldn’t find the exact date and time of the video.

Therefore, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the video was not from Pakistan but an outdated video from Saudi Arabia.
