Fact Check: Viral Video Falsely Claims Bihari Man Captured in Sudan Said He Eats Cow

A video circulating online allegedly shows an Indian national captured by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan. The video is being shared with the false claim that the man is from Bihar and that he said he eats cow. These claims are completely baseless and misleading. The individual has been identified as Adarsh Behera from Jagatsinghpur district in Odisha, not Bihar. Furthermore, there is no credible evidence or verified footage of him making any such statement about eating beef.

An Propagandist account named @AsianDigest shared the video with the caption:

“Indian Bihari caught in Sudan said he eats Cow.”

This misleading post attempted to create religious and regional tension by spreading a false narrative about the captured Indian’s identity and comments.

Truth: The man in the video is from Odisha, not Bihar, and made no such statement

As the false claim gained traction on social media, it drew our attention. The D-Intent Data Team conducted a detailed frame-by-frame analysis and keyword research. Our investigation led us to a report published by NDTV, titled “Exclusive: ‘You Know SRK?’ Sudan Rebels, Guns In Hand, Ask Kidnapped Indian.” The video shown in the report features Adarsh Behera from Jagatsinghpur district, Odisha, sitting between two RSF soldiers in Sudan.

Additional coverage by Firstpost and NDTV confirms that the footage relates to the ongoing conflict in Sudan and highlights the humanitarian crisis following the RSF’s control over El-Fasher. Nowhere in the verified videos or accompanying news reports is there any mention or evidence of the man making the alleged statement about eating cow.

Therefore, the claim that the individual is from Bihar or made such remarks is false and unsubstantiated.

Intent:

Propaganda accounts are circulating videos of Indian national captured by RSF, with misleading claims to set their narrative against India.
