Old Video Of Malaysian Man Joseph Jerry Dressing Woman in Saree Circulated With Communal Claims

A few days ago, a video surfaced on social media showing a man expertly draping a woman in a saree. However, this video was shared with false claims, alleging that the man in the video, identified as Rafiq, was involved in Hindu marriage ceremonies. Upon further investigation, it became clear that the claims were baseless. The man in the video is not Rafiq but Joseph Jerry, a Malaysian who effortlessly demonstrates how to wear a saree in just three minutes. The video with misleading claims was initially shared by habitual fake news spreader @ajaychauhan41.

Source and Verification

The source of the video in question was traced to a YouTube channel called ViVi-TV, where it was uploaded in 2019. The video’s description explicitly stated that it featured Joseph Jerry, the Malaysian Saree expert, demonstrating the art of saree draping. This information contradicted the claims made on social media.

To verify the authenticity of the video, a thorough investigation was carried out. The video was subjected to digital verification using Invid, a tool for verifying online content. This allowed us to extract keyframes from the video. Further, a Yandex Reverse Image Search was conducted, leading to the discovery of the same video on YouTube. Remarkably, the video had been uploaded on July 13, 2019, long before the false claims emerged. The video’s description reaffirmed that the person in question was Joseph Jerry, not Rafiq, as alleged by the propagandists. [Archive Link]
