Three gunmen shot and killed Latif, also known as Bilal, who was designated as a terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Two of his associates were also killed.

Shahid Latif, a Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist who is thought to have planned the 2016 attack on an Indian Air Force base in Pathankot, was shot dead on October 11 in a mosque in Daska town, Sialkot district, Pakistan, by assailants who have not been identified, according to officials. He was apprehended a year after entering the Kashmir Valley through infiltration in 1993. Up until 2010, he was incarcerated in Jammu along with JeM founder Masood Azhar, according to officials. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had Latif on its wanted list.

After his release in 2010, he was deported to Pakistan, where he formally joined the terrorist organisation.

An official declared, “This is the biggest blow to JeM on Pakistani soil.”

On January 2, 2016, four JeM terrorists broke into the Pathankot Air Force Station, killing seven IAF personnel. Three days were spent under siege.

Analysis and Fact

Jadhav was kidnapped by Irani from the Chabahar region of Iran and afterwards handed over to the Pakistani military. Irani reportedly served in the Pakistani army and took part in the abduction of Kulbhushan Jadhav, a former officer in the Indian Navy.

Action against Irani arrived days after Tehran asked Islamabad to find the wanted terrorist. Irani belonged to the outlawed Iranian group “Jash-ul-Adal.”

The claim by Pakistani security forces to have killed Mullah Omar Irani, the most dangerous terrorist in Iran, was a significant development. Irani and his two sons reportedly died in Turbat town, Kech district, Balochistan province, during a gunfight with the police. November 17 was the date of the incident.

“All the three people, who were killed in the exchange of fire, were wanted by the Iranian government for long for kidnapping and killing of Iranian forces and other subversion activities,” Dawn news, which is based in Pakistan, stated.

Several articles like thehindu and indiatvnews provided few interesting facts about the incident which can clarify the fake news.

In April 2017, Jadhav was found guilty of terrorism and espionage by a Pakistani military court and given the death penalty. India has insisted that Jadhav was abducted from the Iran-Pakistan border, despite Pakistan’s claims that the businessman, who had interests in Iran, was detained in Balochistan.

A few weeks later, India challenged the death penalty and Pakistan’s denial of him consular access by bringing a case before the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled in July 2019 that Pakistan had to immediately allow consular access to India and conduct a “effective review and reconsideration” of Jadhav’s conviction and sentence.
