Madhya Pradesh — Digitally Altered Video Of MP CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan About Liquor Sale Circulated With False Claims: Fact-Check 

Social media users are sharing an old, edited video clip of Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan endorsing alcohol sales and raising doubts on the Excise department’s operations.

@bhagalsanju circulated the 17 seconds edited video clip of MP chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan. He claimed that the minister told to make everyone drink alcohol so that no one talks at work. The tweet was made on Oct 24, 2023. The user has received an about 17.4k views. It was further reposted by more than 500 user accounts. The archive can be read from above.

What is the Real Truth About the Video? : Fact

When Congress leader Kamalnath was the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, the original video was shot in January 2020. The state’s alcohol policy under the previous Kamalnath administration is criticised by the opposition Chouhan.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan (“@ChouhanShivraj“) tweeted about the incident on Jan 12, 2020. He wrote on the caption “There is panic all around. Farmers’ paddy is not being sold, loans are not being waived, youth are not getting unemployment allowance. Development works are also at a standstill. In such a situation, the government is bent upon ruining the young generation by opening liquor sub-shops. We will not remain silent, we will fight. #MP_मांगे_जवाब” after sharing the video. Shivraj Chauhan refuted the allegation in June of 2020 and filed a lawsuit against those who circulated the fake footage.

Office of Shivraj (“@OfficeofSSC“) tweeted “Strict legal action will be taken against whoever is sharing the fake video released by the Dirty Tricks Department of Congress on Tweets and WhatsApp. This is the original video. There is no place for petty politics in Madhya Pradesh!” on June 14, 2020.
