Video Of Police Action Against Protestors in Hyderabad Circulated With Multiple False Claims: Fact-Check

There is a video circulating on the social media of police action against few protestors from Hyderabad. Propagandists are circulating the video with multiple misleading claims.

Himmu 1988 (“@1988Himmu“) claimed in a twitter post that PFI held a rally in Uttar Pradesh and voiced a great deal of unease. Baba’s army arrived at every home at six o’clock, distributed Konavratri Prasad to all the courageous souls, and then, as usual, took them away. The tweet was made on September 27, 2022.

The same video became viral as the Mira Road Riots incident in January 2024. Verified accounts on twitter, including @ajaychauhan41 tweeted “#MiraRoadRiots Fundamentalists arrested after entering the house” on Jan 24, 2024. The tweet became viral and has received an about 469.6k views on X.

Several other accounts, including Lokesh Yadav (“@Lokeshy49599209“), Zafarul-Islam Khan (“@khan_zafarul“), Ravi Dewangan (“@Ravi297782024“) also made the same claim that the police entered the house and arrested them in Mira Bhayandar. The archive can be read from above.

Further, the video again got resurfaced as the incident of Haldwani unrest in Feb, 2024. @KashifArsalaan tweeted “Uttarakhand – Haldwani, Allegations of police entering Muslim houses along dirty streets and searching them.” on Feb 13, 2024.

What is the Actual Truth About this Incident? : Fact

The video originates from Hyderabad City, where young people were calling for Raja Singh’s arrest due to his anti-prophit remarks, and is not from UP. But when the protest got out of hand, police had to use force to disperse demonstrators in the Shalibanda neighbourhood, which resulted in the arrest of 120 people from MIM and Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT).

The official account of @amjedmbt (Spokesman – Majlis Bachao Tahreek) tweeted “The real face of friendly police breaking doors of muslim youths and arresting them, Why not @hydcitypolice in so much action against Raja Singh (MLA),Will any action be taken against this cops for using abusive language and manhandelling aged parents @CPHydCity & @KTRTRS.” on August 25, 2022.

Many claimed that the video is from Uttar Pradesh, while some claimed it is the Mira Road Riots incident . Further, the video got resurfaced as Haldwani unrest in 2024. The video is from Hyderabad City, not from Up, where young people were calling for Raja Singh’s arrest over his anti-prophit comments. Still, 120 members of MIM and Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) were arrested when police had to use force to disperse demonstrators in the Shalibanda area after the protest got out of control.
