Several accounts on twitter, including @IAMCHindi, @KiCainala, Article19 India (“@Article19_India“), Ali Sohrab (“@007AliSohrab“), @KashifArsalaan also made the same claim that the video shows the police dragging a woman on the road who was wearing a burqa in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh. The Police reported that the woman and her brother-in-law got into a fight.The road is a highway with a lot of traffic, she was misled by the people and ended up sitting on the road. To ensure that the traffic on the road was not disrupted and no accident happened to the woman (along with her children). For her safety, the woman was removed fromf the road by the female constable and other police personnel. Additional research is being conducted. Contrary to what was implied, the woman was not tortured.
An article was published by amarujala regarding this incident on Jan 17, 2024 which clarified that according to Inspector Deshraj Singh, he ensured that there was no traffic congestion and for this, the woman was removed from the road. This makes it clear that the claims made were not at all true.
