Propagandists Circulate Hateful Comments Regarding “Anavasar” Rituals of Lord Jagannath: Fact-Check

The caption “A doctor examines if God Puri Jagannath is suffering from cold, malaria, typhoid, or dengue” is attached to an image of Lord Jagannath that is going around. It appears as though a random doctor performed the examination on a random day.

Verified accounts on twitter, including @Mufti_Yasir tweeted “O idol worshipers! If this idol has God’s soul in it, know that God doesn’t fall sick. If this idol is only a piece of stone, know that stone doesn’t fall sick. Wake up from this ignorance and recognize your status. Embrace rationality and reject superstition.” on Feb 19, 2024. The tweet has received an about 130.2k views on X.

@Mufti_Yasir further tweeted on this on Mrch 8, 2024. The user added “Lol. Whenever I become skeptical about the low IQ cult, someone from the cult proves me right. Darul Uloom Deoband never stated that Imrana’s husband has now become her son. It was the artwork of islamophobic media channels and newspapers. In actuality, it’s a ritual known as “Anavasar”; following his bath, it’s thought he developed a fever; following this, Lord Jagannath is kept in isolation for fifteen days in a special room, where ritual care is provided from a physician or doctor and an attendant.
