Digitally Altered Visiting Card of a Circumcision Specialist from Kanpur Circulated With False Claims: Fact-Check 

A digitally altered photograph purporting to be the visiting card of a Kanpur-based circumcision specialist is making the rounds under false pretences, including offensive remarks directed towards Muslim women.

@doctorrichabjp tweeted the picture and claimed that the image is of the Kanpur-based circumcision specialist. The picture contains disrespectful remarks against Muslim women. The tweet was made on Feb 18, 2024, which has received an about 769.5k views on X.

What is the Actual Truth About this Incident? : Fact

After some investigation, we were able to locate the original picture of the visiting card, which only had the specialist’s name, address, and mobile number. There was no reference to those disparaging remarks in the original picture. Hazi and the police have reportedly stated that the image has been altered several times in the past.

@TheSumanG tweeted “Ha Ha Ha….. #ROFL Best #Khatna specialist in Kanpur. My Muslim brotherens please visit him.” . This shows the original visiting card. The tweet was made on September 10, 2014.

We visited Live Hindustan, which wrote about the visiting card which have different claims made in the past. The headline of the article is “In our place, Begum is immediately returned after performing Halala…After Constable Admit Card, now visitng card goes viral.”, which was posted on Feb 18, 2024.

Intent:

Propagandists are circulating digitally altered images with false claims to target a particular community and to create communal disharmony. A digitally altered image of a visiting card of a circumcision specialist from Kanpur, which contains disrespectful remarks against Muslim women is being circulated as a real image. After some research, we were able to locate the original picture of the visiting card, which only had the specialist’s name, address, and mobile number. Nothing in the original photo mentioned those disparaging remarks. The image has reportedly been altered several times in the past, as confirmed by Hazi and the police.

Conclusion:

Fact : Upon research we found the original image of the visiting card, which contains name of the circumcision specialist, address and mobile number only. No mention of those derogatory remarks in the original photo. According to reports police and Hazi have also clarified that the image is edited in the past multiple times.
