Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh — Fake WhatsApp Chat Screenshot in the Name of IPS Muniraj Viral With False Claims: Fact-Check 

A WhatsApp group chat screenshot is circulating, stating that IPS Muniraj stated that individuals from the Muslim community will vote in large numbers after 3 o’clock and that force will be deployed at the booth at 3:00pm.

@lokeshRlive tweeted “Look at what is happening in #Elections2024 ! A message of a senior IPS officer has gone viral. It seems that it has been sent by an official of some organization. @SpokespersonECI” on April 26, 2024. The tweet has received an about 101.7k views on X.

Several other accounts, including @rohini_sgh, @saalim_dr, @IPSinghSp, @azizkavish made the same claim that IPS Muniraj said that people belonging to the Muslim community will vote massively after 3 o’clock and somehow deploy force at the booth at 3:00pm. The archive can be read from above.

Moradabad police have rejected the claims, stating that “a screenshot of a WhatsApp group “Bebaak Khabar Bebaak Andaz” is going viral for spreading misleading news by an unknown person in the name MUNIRAJ.” Mr Muniraj ji, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Moradabad Zone, Moradabad, does not belong to the WhatsApp group “Bebaak Khabar Bebaak Andaz”. After determining the facts, the appropriate legal action is being taken.
