Uttarakhand Police Registered an FIR Against Journalists For Covering The Char Dham Yatra Incident? Fact-Check 

There are rumours going around that the Uttarakhand police have filed a formal complaint against journalists for covering the Char Dham Yatra incident.

Verified accounts on twitter, including @MediaCellSP tweeted “BJP Uttarakhand CM is leaving his work and campaigning for BJP in UP Whereas during the Char Dham Yatra, due to the chaos, travellers/visitors are facing problems and losing their lives Now the Dhami led BJP government has filed an FIR against the journalist/institution for covering this matter.” on May 16, 2024. The tweet has received an about more than 2.5k views on X.

What is the Actual Truth About this Incident? : Fact

In actuality, the FIR was filed for disseminating false information and rumours. For the purpose of covering the news, no FIR was filed. So, the claim that Uttarakhand police have filed a FIR against journalists for covering the Char Dham Yatra incident is not true at all.

@UttarkashiPol tweeted “On 15.05.2024, a case has been registered against the concerned Dainik Bhaskar correspondent, Manmeet, for spreading rumors and misleading at Kotwali Uttarkashi for publishing false and misleading news regarding the Chardham Yatra in the Dainik Bhaskar newspaper. Further investigative action is underway.” on May 15, 2024.

Further, @uttarakhandcops tweeted “#CharDhamYatra2024 On publishing false and misleading news in Dainik Bhaskar newspaper, a case has been registered against the concerned Dainik Bhaskar correspondent in Kotwali Uttarkashi under relevant sections for spreading rumours and misleading, in which investigation proceedings are ongoing.” on May 15, 2024.

Also, @ukcmo tweeted “दिनांक 15.05.2024 को दैनिक भास्कर में चारधाम यात्रा से सम्बंधित प्रकाशित उक्त समाचार पूरी तरह गलत और भ्रामक है। इस सम्बन्ध में स्थानीय प्रशासन ने अफवाह फ़ैलाने के लिए अपनी आपत्ति दर्ज की है, जल्द ही स्थानीय प्रशासन द्वारा सम्बंधित समाचार पत्र पर FIR दर्ज करवाई जाएगी।” on May 15, 2024.
