A video purporting to show that the Indian Army is being employed by the BJP to cast fake votes and that they were caught red-handed influencing citizens to cast fake votes for the party is doing the rounds.

Verified accounts on twitter, including @EkSawalMaiKaru added “Fake votes are being cast for BJP through the Army…!! Jai to democracy…!!” in a twitter post on May 20, 2024. The tweet has received an about 159.5k views on X.

Several other accounts, including @Manishkumarttp, @RavinderKapur2, @FaryalBD, @JaiMishra787421 made the same claim that the Indian Army is being employed by the BJP to cast fake votes and has been captured red-handed inside election booths influencing voters to cast fake votes for the BJP. What is the Actual Truth About this Inicdent? : Fact

This video is out of context and outdated. The incident in this April 2019 video occurred in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. The Indian Army has lodged a complaint against unidentified miscreants for attempting to snatch general voters’ voter ID cards, blocking army voters stationed in the Cantonment, and disseminating videos intended to damage the Army’s reputation. So, the claim that the Indian Army being utilised by the BJP to cast fake ballots and that they were caught red-handed influencing voters to cast fake votes for the BJP is not true. Bhindi Bazaar posted the video on Facebook on May 1, 2019 with the caption “Will Election commission take cognisance of such complaints ???”.The Youtube Video was uploaded on May 3, 2019.
