Fact-Check: Rahul Gandhi alleges no compensation given to Agniveer Ajay Kumar’s family, Army rejects claims

A controversy has erupted after Rahul Gandhi alleges no compensation given to Agniveer Ajay Kumar’s family. The Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha released a video purportedly of the father of an Agniveer, claiming the family had not received any compensation from the Centre after his son lost his life in a landmine explosion in Naushera, Jammu & Kashmir, in January.

The congress leader has shared the video and claimed that Agniveer Ajay Kumar’s family had not received any monetary assistance. And Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lied about it in the parliament. However, the Indian Army has refuted the claims and said that the family of Ajay Kumar has already been paid ₹ 98.39 lakhs.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and others circulated false claims related to Agniveer compensation

Sharing the video, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has said,. “Protection of truth is the basis of every religion!. But Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lied in Parliament about the assistance given to the family of martyr Agniveer. Martyr Agniveer Ajay Singh’s father himself has told the truth about his lie. The Defence Minister should apologise to the Parliament, the country, the army and the family of martyr Agniveer Ajay Singh.

The Congress party’s official handle on X (Formerly Twitter) @INCIndia has also posted the video and said. “Protection of truth is the basis of every religion. Truth revealed: Army refutes Rahul Gandhi’s allegation of no compensation given to Agniveer Ajay Kumar’s family

After the claims made by Congress leaders and workers. The Indian Army issued a statement and clarified that Agniveer Ajay Kumar’s family has already been paid ₹ 98.39 lakhs.

The Army said, Certain posts on Social Media have brought out that compensation hasn’t been paid to the Next of Kin of Agniveer Ajay Kumar who lost his life in the line of duty.

It is emphasised that the Indian Army salutes the supreme sacrifice made by Agniveer Ajay Kumar. The last rites were carried out with full Military Honours. Of the total amount due, the family of Agniveer Ajay has already been paid Rs 98.39 lakhs.

Ex – Gratia and other benefits amounting to approximately 67 lakhs, as applicable according to the provisions of the Agniveer Scheme, will be paid on Final Account Settlement shortly post due Police verification. The total amount will be Rs 1.65 Cr approximately.

It is re-emphasised that emoluments due to a fallen hero are paid expeditiously to the Next of Kin of departed soldiers, including Agniveers.

It is evident from the Army statement that the family of Agniveer Ajay Kumar has already received compensation. The Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has made false claims to target the government.
