Fact-Check: Old video of a woman falling into a ditch while walking on the road in Brazil re-circulated as India

A video that shows a woman falling into a ditch while walking on the road has gone viral on social media platforms. Several users have shared the video of a woman falling into a ditch and claimed to be from Gujarat, India. However, D-Intent Data has found that the video is not from India, but an old video from Brazil.

Several users have shared the video of a woman falling into a ditch while walking on the road.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) @Naushadlive_ has said. “This is a video from Gujarat. Keep the Gujarat model in mind before driving on the road”.

Another user @MazharYaqueen on X has also shared the video and made the same claims by saying, “This is a video from Gujarat. Keep the Gujarat model in mind before driving on the road.”

While sharing the video @Simply_Krishna on X has said, Development(Vikas) fell into the pit in Gujarat.

The same video is being circulated claiming it to be from Uttar Pradesh

Several users have shared the video of a woman falling into a hole while walking on the road and claimed it to be from Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya.

Sharing the video on X @GuptaPragnya said, “This is the condition of the road Rampath built in Ayodhya after the first rain. Its length is 13 kilometres. The total cost is 844 crores i.e. about 65 crore rupees have been spent in the construction of 1 kilometre.The company that built the road is from Gujarat. Its name is Bhuvan Infracom Private Limited.Check all the facts. You will believe it yourself.Rest Ram naam satya hai”. She later deleted the post.

Another user @ChobeyManisha on X has also shared the video and said,. Ayodhya’s Rampath, only 13 km,. has been built by a Gujarati company, in just 844 crores, 1 km cost 66 crores,, all the taxpayers’ money has been gobbled up by the Gujarati company. She later deleted the post.

However, Ayodhya police have taken action against the users, who circulated the video claiming to be from Uttar Pradesh.

Truth about the viral video where a woman falling into a ditch

As soon as the posts came to our knowledge, to verify the claims, we did a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video on Google which led us to several reports regarding the video. According to the reports this is an old video from Cascavel, Brazil.

As per the reports , a civil servant Maria Rosilene was “swallowed” by a crater that opened after the floor of a sidewalk collapsed in Cascavel in the interior of Ceará, Brazil in June 2022.

Brazilian media channel “Jornal da Record” has uploaded the video on YouTube with the discription. “Câmera flagra momento em que calçada cede e mulher cai em buraco no Ceará”. Which translates to — Camera captures moment when sidewalk gives way and woman falls into hole in Ceará. The video was uploaded in June 2022.

It is evident from D-Intent Data’s fact-check that the video is not from Gujarat, India, but this is an old video from Cascavel, Brazil.
