Truth about the viral image of a girl lying under the rubble of a house, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the image of the girl lying under the rubble of a collapsed house came to our notice. We conducted research and found that the image was from the Turkey-Syria earthquake in 2023.

To verify the claims made by the propagandists, we did a reverse image search on Google which led us to several media reports containing the same image of the girl lying under the rubble of a collapsed house.

According to the reports, this image shows a little girl named Sham lying under the rubble of her collapsed home before being rescued by White Helmet volunteers in Armanaz, Syria, on Feb. 7, 2023. The image was found on several media outlets like India Today, The Christian Science Monitor and Al Jazeera.

We also found that the image was captured by Mousa Zidane, a photographer who was also working as a rescue worker with White Helmets in Syria. He saved this small girl’s life after 50 hours of persistent digging during the deadly earthquake in Feb 2023.

Hence, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the viral image is from the Turkey-Syria earthquake in 2023 and has nothing to do with the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict.
