A doctor and six labourers were killed when terrorists struck a tunnel-construction site on the Srinagar-Leh national highway in Ganderbal on Sunday (October 20, 2024). Now, claims have surfaced on social media asserting that the local administration has asked the non-local labourers to leave the valley. However, the police have clarified that the claims are not true.
Making a post on X (Formerly Twitter) JKPDP leader @MehboobaMufti wrote. After the barbaric attack at Sonamarg there are reports that the local admin is pressurising non local labourers to leave the valley immediately. While I understand their obvious sense of panic but asking them to leave in this manner is not a solution. Will only create more difficulties & sends a very bad message to the country. J&K recently witnessed peaceful terror free elections & this knee jerk reaction will only prove otherwise. Might also cause outrage against Kashmiris working & studying in other states.
The truth behind the claims, Fact Check
As soon as the posts containing the claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the claims and found that these claims were not true.
To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a relevant keyword search and found the ‘Kashmir Zone Police’ statement regarding the claims. IGP Kashmir said, “Social media reports claiming the local administration has asked non-local workers to leave the valley are false. The Jammu and Kashmir Police is committed to ensure security and fostering a safe environment for all individuals to pursue their livelihoods without fear or intimidation. General public is advised not to pay heed to such false information on social media platforms”.
Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the claims about the local administration asking non-local labourers to leave the valley are not true.
