The truth behind the claims about fire in Sajek Valley, Fact Check
As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis regarding the incident. We found that the fire was not started intentionally.
To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a relevant keyword search and found media reports regarding the incident. According to reports (1, 2) and local sources, the fire was accidental and may have originated from a cigarette stub or an electrical short circuit. As per reports, the devastating fire in Sajek, Rangamati, completely destroyed 94 resorts, cottages, and residential houses. The incident took place in the Ruilui tourist area of Sajek Union, Baghaichhari Upazila, around 12:45 PM on Monday.
Additionally, there are no verified or credible sources confirming that the fire was intentionally started.
Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the incident was unrelated to violence and a targeted attack.
