Fact-check: Edited video falsely claims Railway officials urged devotees to postpone Mahakumbh journey

A viral video circulating on social media claims that railway officials at a crowded station announced that devotees should postpone their journey to the Prayagraj Mahakumbh and return home. However, an investigation has revealed that the video is misleading and edited. The original footage, uploaded on Instagram on January 29, 2025, shows a man making this announcement on a road, not at a railway station.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter), propaganda account @azizkavish wrote, “Request of the system to Aastha. An appeal is made to the devotees going to Prayagraj to postpone their program of going to Maha Kumbh for the time being” (Translated from Hindi).

Several other users and Influencers have also disseminated the video and made similar claims. Their posts can be seen here: @Shan3655, @Bhaktokisutayi.

The truth about the video shared as Mahakumbh, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video. We found that the video was not real but digitally altered.

To verify the claims made by propagandists. We performed relevant keyword searches and found the original video on the Instagram account of @maheshshukla4085. The original footage, uploaded on Instagram on January 29, 2025. It shows a man making this announcement on a road, not at a railway station.

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the audio in the video was not real but digitally altered.

Influencers are circulating digitally altered videos with misleading claims to set their narrative against the Railways.
