Fact Check: Video of doctors carefully managing a surgical procedure amid earthquake tremors in China shared as Myanmar

A catastrophic 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar on March 28, 2025, killing over 2,700 people, injuring 4,500, and leaving hundreds missing. Now, a video showing doctors and nurses carefully managing a surgical procedure amid earthquake tremors inside an operating theatre has been shared with claims of being from Myanmar. However, reports indicate it was actually recorded in China’s Yunnan province.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter), @Dr_MonikaSingh_ wrote, “This is a great example of humanity. During the terrible earthquake in Myanmar, the doctors and nurses did not abandon their patients but ran towards the beds to save them.”

Another account @Mr0mkar also shared the video and wrote, “Watch this video.A patient was undergoing treatment in a hospital in Myanmar when the earthquake started and the staff there sat down holding the patient’s bed so that nothing happens to the patient.” (Translated from Hindi).

Several other users and influencers have also disseminated the video and made similar claims. Their posts can be seen here: @UmajeetY13964, @Jeetuburdak.

The truth about the video of surgical procedure amid earthquake tremors, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video. We found that the video was not from Myanmar but China.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search of some keyframes from the viral video using Google Lens. This led us to media reports (1, 2, 3) containing the same visuals. According to the reports, it was actually recorded in China’s Yunnan province. During the quake, surgery was underway at Ruili People’s Hospital. Despite the sudden shaking disrupting the operation, the lead surgeon stayed calm, firmly holding the patient to prevent them from sliding off the table. Although the tremors were caused by a strong earthquake in Myanmar, the footage itself is not from Myanmar.

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the video was not from Myanmar but China.
