There’s an account going by the name “Rebecca Smith” that claims to be a Denmark-based expert on South Asian geopolitics — but in reality, it’s part of a Pakistani propaganda network. The person (or team) behind it is spreading false and misleading information about India while pretending to be a neutral Western voice. This kind of setup is designed to make their narratives seem more credible to outsiders, even though it’s all part of a coordinated effort to push anti-India propaganda.

The Truth Behind the “Rebecca Smith” Account
This account recently caught our attention, we did a closer analysis. Here’s what we found:
First, the profile picture appears to be AI-generated and shows signs of being altered from a real image—possibly that of Australian judge Ruth McColl or UK-based educator Amanda Kirby.

Second, there’s no credible evidence of any geopolitical expert named Rebecca Smith based in Denmark who matches the identity or expertise this account claims to have. The name and profile seem to have been fabricated to create the illusion of a neutral, Western academic voice a tactic often used in coordinated disinformation campaigns.

No Verified Identity Matches the Claim
There’s no widely recognized journalist or expert named Rebecca Smith specializing in South Asian geopolitics based in Denmark. While there are a few notable individuals with the same name — including journalists and even a Member of Parliament in the UK — none of them are linked to this account, nor does the profile photo match any of these real individuals. This further supports the likelihood that the identity is fabricate

False and Inflammatory Claims by @ImRebeccae
On June 14, 2025, the account @ImRebeccae, which appears to be a fake or AI-generated persona, posted a provocative and unverified statement claiming:
“BREAKING: #Iran’s IRGC nabs 73 alleged spies, mostly #Indian nationals, accused of working for Israel. What’s behind this espionage ring?”

This tweet falsely suggests that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has arrested 73 individuals — mostly Indian nationals — allegedly spying for Israel. By framing it as a “BREAKING” news update and pairing it with emotionally charged hashtags like #IranIsraelWar, #Tehran, and #Iran, the post aims to provoke outrage and spread confusion.
Fact Check:
This alarming claim quickly began gaining traction online. As it started attracting views and engagement, we immediately launched an investigation. We conducted a reverse image search and performed keyword research to verify the facts. Here’s what we Found that the image used is actually from a March 2023 Iranian naval drill, not a spy arrest. It shows Iran, China, and Russia simulating the rescue of a hijacked ship. Source – Tasnim News

Also, there is no credible news confirming that Iran’s IRGC arrested 73 people — let alone mostly Indians — for spying for Israel. If it were true, it would be in major headlines. It’s a false claim, backed by a fake image.

ANALYSIS: Fake
FACT: Pakistan-based propaganda accounts are spreading false claims alleging that Iran has arrested 73 Indian nationals for spying on behalf of Israel. These claims are entirely fabricated and have no basis in reality. There are no credible, verified, (1/5) pic.twitter.com/fkNe5POoZt
Second claim from this account @ImRebeccae
That Iran is cracking down on Mossad (Israeli intelligence) agents, and that many of them are Indian nationals. It also suggests that some of these Indians are linked to Indian intelligence, implying secret cooperation between India and Israel inside Iran.
“As #Iran intensifies its crackdown on Mossad agents, reports reveal that many are #Indian nationals, some allegedly tied to Indian intelligence networks.”
Misleading Images and False Claims
The account shared unrelated and old images to support its false narrative. We searched and traced the photo of 15 menback to a Turkish media report from October 2021, published on The Times of Israel website, which showed alleged Mossad agents — with no connection to India.
🔗 Source – The Times of Israel

Another image showing a man being dragged is also unrelated and has nothing to do with Indian nationals. There is no verified report confirming that Indian citizens were arrested in Iran for spying for Israel. This claim is misleading and based on reused, unrelated images.

Another False Claim by @ImRebeccae on May 16, 2025
The account falsely claimed that parts of India’s S-400 missile system were destroyed, using fake satellite images and an operator’s obituary as “proof.” The source is unreliable, and there is no official or credible report confirming any damage to India’s S-400 system. This is just another attempt to spread misinformation and create confusion.
False Claim of India’s S-400 Missile System Being Destroyed Debunked
The claim that parts of India’s Russian-made S-400 air defense system were destroyed during recent tensions is completely false. This misinformation originated from Pakistani sources and lacks any credible proof. In reality, PM Modi was recently photographed standing in front of the fully operational S-400 system at Adampur Air Base — disproving the false claim. Source – Times of India

False Claim About PM Modi and the G7 Summit
During the recent G7 Summit in Canada, the account circulated an image suggesting that PM Modi was excluded from the official G7 leaders’ group photo. This implication is false.
Fact-Check: G7 Photo and PM Modi’s Participation
We reviewed official sources, including the G7 Canada website and trusted media outlets like AP News, which confirm that the official G7 leaders’ family photo includes only the seven member countries. India, as a guest invitee, was not part of that specific photo, which is standard protocol at G7 summits.

Misleading Claim About Indian Media and PM Modi at G7 Summit
Account @ImRebeccae shared a video of PM Modi speaking with journalists, falsely claiming it showed Canada barring Indian media access to the G7 Summit venue.
Fact-Check
We did a reverse image search and frame-by-frame analysis of the video. Our investigation led us to a YouTube video showing the same footage of PM Modi speaking with journalists in Berlin, May 2022, unrelated to the G7 Summit in Canada.
This proves the video is old and unrelated, making the claim misleading and false.
It also shared a video of PM Modi speaking with journalists, falsely captioned as "Canada barred Indian media from the G7 venue." The video was actually from Berlin in May 2022, where Modi was speaking with the Indian journalists after an event.(8/11) pic.twitter.com/RwEjPB6tBg

Misleading Claim: Iran’s Missile Strike on Israel
@ImRebeccae posted a dramatic video with the caption:
“This is not Gaza, it is #Israel. Iran lights up the night for Israel. Rocket attacks continue in full force…”

It falsely claimed the video showed Iran launching missile strikes on Israeli cities like Tel Aviv and Haifa.
Fact-Check
We conducted a reverse image search and traced the video back to a post by The Phoenix Alpha, shared 4 years ago. Further verification shows the footage actually depicts a U.S. airstrike on Iraq from 2003, not a recent event or anything related to Iran or Israel. This is yet another deliberate use of old, unrelated footage to spread false war narratives.

Misleading Claim: Iranian Missile Strike on Israel (AI-Generated Video)
A video showing high-rise buildings engulfed in flames and multiple explosions was circulated by the account, claiming it depicted a real Iranian missile attack on Israel.

Fact-Check
We traced the video back to a TikTok account, @myuz_1, which originally posted it.
Upon analysis, it’s clear the footage is AI-generated — not real. Signs of digital fabrication include unnatural fire effects, visual glitches, and inconsistent movement. This is yet another attempt to spread false narratives using fake visuals, misleading viewers during a tense geopolitical moment.

Coordinated Propaganda Pattern:
Upon closer observation, the account revealed that almost all the engagements are from Pakistan. It’s not an isolated case; several such fake profiles are masquerading as foreign experts while being run by the Pakistani propaganda network
