A sensitive, disturbing video has gone viral on social media platforms in which a man in uniform is seen brutally beating a half-naked man with a whip rope while another man in uniform holding a stick watches the scene. The video has gone viral with the claim that a Uyghur Muslim was beaten by a Chinese soldier for keeping the Qur’an at his home. However, D-Intent Data has found that the video is not from China, but an old incident from Indonesia and has nothing to do with religious hate crime.

The truth about the viral video of Uyghur Muslim beaten by Chinese soldier, Fact Check
As soon as the posts containing the sensitive video of a half-naked individual being brutally beaten came to our knowledge. We tried to find if the claims made by social media users are true or false.
We did a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video on Google which led us to media reports containing the same visuals. According to the media reports, this is an old video from Indonesia.
According to Tribunnews, this incident occurred at Depok Baru Station, Jakarta, on 13 May 2017. The victim was a suspected pickpocket, and he was arrested several times for pickpocketing. The uniformed officer was dismissed from KCJ and returned to his unit.
Moreover, Chinese civil servant Lijian Zhao has also made a post on X in 2019, he said Fake news Not Chinese language Not even Chinese police uniform!!! This is sheer propaganda against China, trying to sabotage relations between China & Muslim countries.
Hence, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the entire incident has nothing to do with China and religion-based hate crimes.
