Computer-Generated Video Showing Earth From Moon Falsely Being Connected with Chandrayaan-3

India on the moon! 23rd August was a festive day for India as it achieved a historic milestone – the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 Vikram Lander on the Moon’s South Polar region. This achievement marked India as the first country ever to land a probe on the lunar south pole. Amid the celebration, a video surfaced, seemingly showing Earth from the Moon’s surface, capturing the attention of netizens. Several social media users swiftly linked this computer-generated 3D video with Chandrayaan-3, claiming that the visuals were sent back by the lunar probe. However, this claim lacks authenticity. Among many users who circulated the video was Wasim Khan (@wasimkhan0730), Chairman Waqf Development Committee.

Our investigation led us to the official sources, primarily the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) website and its verified social media accounts. Surprisingly, no such video was officially released by the ISRO Team. While ISRO did share images of the lunar surface in the days leading up to the Chandrayaan-3 landing, the claimed Earth-view video was not among them. A video released on August 15, 2023, showcased the Moon’s surface as captured by the Lander Position Detection Camera (LPDC), underscoring the focus on lunar visuals, not Earth.

Contrary to the misleading claims, ISRO’s official communication has been consistently centred around lunar observations and progress related to Chandrayaan-3. The organization has affirmed its dedication to the mission’s success by sharing genuine images and data. These authentic updates provide insight into the ongoing exploration of the Moon’s surface, which is a pivotal aspect of the Chandrayaan-3 mission.

Conclusion:
As India proudly celebrated its monumental feat of landing Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram Lander on the lunar surface, an unrelated computer-generated video falsely connected with the mission managed to garner attention. While the intention behind this might have been to attract online engagement, it is essential for individuals to prioritize accuracy and truth in their online interactions. Separating factual information from sensationalism is crucial to maintaining the integrity of accomplishments in the field of space exploration. Such misinformation not only distorts the achievements of ISRO. Following comprehensive analysis and meticulous fact-checking, our team has investigated the claim. You can refer to the findings of this inquiry in the Twitter thread embedded below.

Claim: A computer-generated video displaying Earth from the Moon was linked to Chandrayaan-3’s mission.

Fact: The video’s connection to Chandrayaan-3 is false; ISRO did not release such a video.

In our pursuit of accurate and unbiased information, we’ve diligently fact-checked the claims surrounding the incident. Misinformation can sow discord and disrupt communal harmony. Your support matters greatly in our mission to foster an informed and united society. Together, let’s strive to make India and Indians proud, upholding truth and unity. Jai Hind.
