Fact Check: China captured 14 Indian soldiers for violating its territorial integrity?

Recently, anti-India propaganda accounts have been spreading false claims that China has captured 14 Indian soldiers for violating its territorial integrity. However, these claims are baseless and lack any credible reports or official confirmation. The image shared in these posts is actually taken from an old, outdated video that has been online since at least May 2024.

Serial fake news peddler and propagandist account @Defence_IDA from Pakistan made a post on X (Formerly Twitter) and stated. “China has reported capturing 14 Indian soldiers allegedly violating its territorial integrity, intensifying tensions along the border. Further details on the incident and diplomatic responses are awaited.”

Another anti-propaganda account @NavCom24 also made a post and wrote. “Just in, China says it captured 14 Indian soldiers violating its territorial integrity.”

Several other users, influencers and propagandists have also disseminated the same claims. Their posts can be seen here, @KashmirUrdu, @amirhussainpak7, @str_overwatch

The truth behind the claims related to China, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the image and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the claims and found that these claims are nothing but propaganda.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed an instructive investigation but couldn’t find any credible and official sources supporting the claims. Furthermore, to verify the image, we performed a reverse image search using Google Lens. This led us to media reports containing the same image uploaded in May 2024

During research, we found a report regarding the India-China border situation. According to the report, The armies of India and China have decided to carry out one round of patrolling every week at Depsang and Demchok areas in eastern Ladakh, defence sources said here on Tuesday(Nov 12, 2024), noting that the first round of patrolling was completed in November.

In reality, India and China have recently reached an agreement to ease border tensions, with both countries withdrawing troops from positions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Therefore, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the claims circulating on social media are false and fabricated.
