An image of Jack Ma, the renowned Chinese businessman and co-founder of Alibaba Group, visiting the Western Wall is currently circulating with inaccurate claims. Some users suggest that Ma kissed the Wall and was subsequently ostracized and imprisoned by Chinese authorities. However, D-Intent Data has found that these claims are unfounded. Jack Ma’s visit to the Western Wall occurred in 2018, and reports of his alleged arrest and the related legal troubles began to emerge in 2022, long after his visit.

The truth behind the claims, Fact Check
As soon as the posts containing the image of Jack Ma and claims came to our notice, we conducted research and analysis of the entire event and found that the alleged arrest of Jack Ma was not related to his visit to the Western Wall in Israel.
To verify the claims made by the users, we performed a reverse image search on Google Lens. This led us to a media report and an Instagram post containing the same image uploaded in May 2018. According to Instagram posts and media reports, Jack Ma visited the Western Wall in 2018. Further, we did a relevant keyword search regarding his alleged arrest and found multiple reports published in May 2022. According to the reports(1, 2, 3) his arrest was related to anti-state activities. Hence, it had nothing to do with his visit to the Western Wall.

Therefore, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that Chinese businessman Jack Ma was not arrested for visiting the Western Wall but for his involvement in anti-state activities.
