Fact Check: Clash erupted between two groups of the same community in Meerut, and misleading claims circulated 

Images showing individuals engaged in an altercation are being shared with false claims that violent clashes erupted between two communities after Eid prayers in Meerut, involving gunfire and multiple injuries. However, according to the police, the incident occurred between two groups from the same community (Muslim community) at Siwalkhas under Jani police station in Meerut.

Sharing the images on X (formerly Twitter), @DivyaHimachal wrote, “Violent clashes broke out between two communities in Meerut after Eid prayers, with gunfire reported and several people injured” (Translated from Hindi).

They also published an article on their website (divyahimachal.com) with the headline, “Violent clashes erupted between two communities in Meerut after Eid prayers, with gunfire reported and many people injured” (Translated from Hindi).

The truth behind the claims from Meerut, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the images and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis regarding the claims. We found that the clash erupted between two groups within the same community, not two communities.

To verify the claims made by the media outlet. We performed relevant keyword searches and found credible media reports and police sources regarding the incident. According to police sources, the incident occurred between two groups from the same community (Muslim community) at Siwalkhas under Jani police station in Meerut. The clash resulted from a dispute between members of two groups within the same community. It was not connected to any inter-community conflict.

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the clash was between two groups within the Muslim community.
