Fact Check: Clipped video of Maulana Jarjees Ansari circulated with misleading claims

A clipped video allegedly shows Islamic preacher Maulana Jarjees Ansari advocating for Muslims to marry their sisters instead of others. However, D-Intent Data has found that the video was clipped and doesn’t show the actual event. In the longer version of the video, it can be heard that the Islamic preacher was criticizing and quoting ‘Ubaydallāh ibn Hasan. 

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter), @mktyaggi wrote. “It is such a great foolishness that people leave their beautiful, pretty and pretty sister and marry someone else’s sister.” Said Maulana Jarjeel Ansari, (Translated from Hindi)

Another user @kamaalrkhan also shared the video and wrote. “Mujhe Behad Afsos Hota Hai Ye Dekh Kar, Ki Muslims Iss Zahil Insaan Ke Muh Par Thookte Nahi Hain.”

Propagandist account @MeghUpdates has also disseminated the video and wrote, “It is such a great foolishness that people leave their beautiful, understanding and pretty sister and marry someone else’s sister ..” – Maulana Zarjil Ansari.

The truth about the viral video, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the video of Maulana Jarjees Ansari advising people to marry their sisters instead of marrying others came to our notice, we conducted research and analysis of the video and found that the video was clipped and didn’t show an actual event.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a relevant keyword search on Google. This led us to Maulana Jarjees Ansari’s official YouTube channel. Upon checking the timeline, we found the same video uploaded in July 2023. In the longer version of the video, it can be heard that the Islamic preacher was criticizing and quoting ‘Ubaydallāh ibn Hasan. The viral video doesn’t show the start of the video. This video is misleading due to its selective editing.

Hence, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the video of Maulana Jarjees Ansari was clipped and doesn’t show the actual event.
