Fact Check: Digitally Altered Video Falsely Implicates India Using Al Jazeera Branding

Pakistani propaganda accounts are circulating a digitally altered video of Al Jazeera journalist Tanvir Chowdhury, falsely claiming that Al Jazeera News confirmed India’s involvement in the killing of Osman Hadi in Bangladesh. This claim is completely fake and fabricated. The viral clip has been digitally manipulated to misrepresent the journalist’s original reporting. In the authentic footage, no such allegation against India is made.

The false narrative was initially pushed by the account @PakDef_, which shared the edited clip with the caption claiming Al Jazeera had confirmed India’s role in the killing. The post was designed to appear as breaking news and quickly gained traction.

Truth: Original Al Jazeera Report Makes No Claim Against India

As the false claim gained traction on social media, it drew our attention. The D-Intent Data Team conducted a detailed frame-by-frame investigation and keyword research. Our investigation led us to the Al Jazeera English YouTube channel, which published the original report titled “Anger in Bangladesh: Violent protests after the death of a student leader.” In this authentic video, journalist Tanvir Chowdhury is only reporting on the unrest and protests following the death of Osman Hadi.

At no point does the journalist claim, suggest, or confirm India’s involvement in the killing. The viral clip circulating online has been digitally altered by selectively editing visuals and misrepresenting the context of the report to push a false narrative.
