Claims are circulating on social media that Diljit Dosanjh’s film Punjab 95 will be released internationally but not in India. These claims suggest the restriction is due to the film’s focus on minority Sikh human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. However, these assertions are baseless. The film’s release is not tied to any religious or political issues.

The truth about the movie release delay, Fact Check
As soon as the post containing the claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis regarding the claims. We found that the movie’s release was delayed due to its dispute with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
During research, we found a report regarding the movie release delay in India. According to the report, the film was initially scheduled for release in India, but a dispute with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has delayed it. The CBFC recommended 120 cuts and requested a title change to include the year of Khalra’s death, leading to repeated postponements. When the filmmakers refused to comply with these demands, the film was not granted clearance for release in Indian theatres.
Usually, films that do not adhere to CBFC’s guidelines are often required to modify or remove inappropriate or offensive scenes before approval. Several films (1, 2, 3, 4) in the past have faced similar conditions.
Recently, Diljit Dosanjh clarified that no cuts will be made to the film as suggested by the CBFC, and the title will remain unchanged. Punjab 95 is now scheduled for an international release on February 7, 2025, without any alterations.
Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the film’s release is not tied to any religious or political issues.
