Fact Check: False Claims of 6 Para SF and 2 BSF Personnel Martyred in Kulgam Encounter

Propaganda accounts are circulating false claims that six Indian Army Para SF soldiers and two BSF jawans were martyred in an encounter with terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir. They used an old image from 2013 to push this narrative. In reality, official reports confirm that two terrorists were killed, and two security personnel lost their lives in the encounter.

A propagandist, @ZardSi and several influencers, including @SSTian777 and @MuhammadAsif26_, amplified it, falsely stating that: six Indian Army Para SF soldiers and two BSF jawans were killed in an encounter by Kashmiri freedom fighters, with TRF allegedly claiming responsibility.

Truth: Only Two Security Personnel Martyred, Old Image Misused

As this claim gained traction, it drew our attention. The D-Intent Data Team investigated using keyword research and credible sources. Our findings led us to the official handle @ChinarcorpsIA, which issued three updates about Operation Guddar in Kulgam. In the first update, the Army reported that a joint operation with Jammu & Kashmir Police and CRPF was launched in the Guddar forest, where terrorists opened fire. One terrorist was eliminated, and a junior commissioned officer sustained injuries. The second update confirmed that another terrorist was neutralized, while one soldier was injured and evacuated for medical treatment. In the third update, @ChinarcorpsIA honored the supreme sacrifice of Sub Perbhat Gaur and L/Nk Narender Sindhu, who laid down their lives during the operation. The Indian Army expressed its deepest condolences to their families.

The image being circulated with these false claims is not from the current encounter. It actually dates back to August 2013, when credible media outlets including NBC NewsThe Wall Street Journal, and Hindustan Times covered incidents involving cross-border raids and tributes to martyrs.

These findings make it clear that the viral claims of six Para SF soldiers and two BSF jawans being killed are entirely fabricated.

Intent:

Propagandist accounts inflated casualty numbers and reused old images to spread misinformation and build a false narrative against India’s security forces.
