Fact Check: Former Indian Army Chief General Sundararajan Padmanabhan passed away at 83, Pakistanis spread false claims

Anti-India propaganda accounts based in Pakistan are spreading false claims that former Indian Army Chief General Sundararajan Padmanabhan was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a Chennai hotel and that the ISI was involved. However, these allegations are entirely fabricated. General Sundararajan Padmanabhan, who served as Army Chief during Operation Parakram, passed away of natural causes. At the age of 83 in Chennai. 

Making a social media post on X (Formerly Twitter), serial fake news peddler and propagandist account @PSYWAROPS wrote. Another Indian general mysteriously dies in Chennai – ISI’s Work? Former Indian Army Chief General Sundararajan Padmanabhan was discovered dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel in Chennai. The day before, Rakesh Pal, the Director General of the Indian Coast Guard, was also found deceased in Chennai under suspicious conditions. Could these incidents be the work of the ISI?

As soon as the posts containing the claims about former Indian Army Chief Sundararajan came to our notice. We conducted research and analysis and found that these claims were false and self-invented. 

To verify the claims made by the propagandists. We did a relevant keyword search on Google. This led us to several media reports regarding the death of former Indian Army Chief Sundararajan. According to the media reports(1, 2). General Sundararajan, widely regarded as one of India’s finest military leaders, passed away in Chennai on Sunday night after a prolonged illness. He was 83, Moreover, we did not find any report suggesting Pakistan’s ISI involvement. 

Hence, it is evident from the media reports that the claims made by the Pakistani accounts are false and self-invented—nothing to do with reality.
