Fact Check: Hindu woman street vendor attacked by Muslim individual in Delhi’s Sultanpuri?

A disturbing video has surfaced showing individuals harassing a female shopkeeper, brandishing a sharp weapon, and making violent threats. The video has been shared with claims that members of the Muslim community attacked a Hindu female street vendor from Sultanpuri due to the area being Muslim-majority. However, this incident is unrelated to religion, as both the accused and the victim belong to the same community.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) @rashtrawadi_ak wrote, A poor Hindu woman was feeding her children by putting up her cart, which the Muslims could not tolerate because that area is Muslim owned. This video is from Sultanpuri F3 Delhi. Also, pay attention to the age of these Muslims. Be united, be united. If you divide, you will be cut. Later, he deleted the post.

The truth about the video from Sultanpuri, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the video and found that the video was not related to the Muslim accused. 

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video using Google Lens. This led us to media reports containing the visuals. According to the report, the accused and victim belonged to the same community. The victim female shopkeeper has been identified as Mamata Devi while the accused have been arrested and identified as Rakesh and a minor. The incident occurred on September 22, around 6 pm in Sultanpuri, Delhi. 

Therefore, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the video was not recent and unrelated to a religious hate crime involving the Muslim accused.
