Fact Check: Indian Army officer assaulted over suspected food poisoning at an NCC camp in Kerala, Pakistanis spread video with misleading claims

Pakistan-based anti-India propaganda accounts are spreading a video of two individuals attacking a man in uniform, falsely alleging that Indian Army officer Lt Col Karnail Singh was caught harassing a girl in Kerala and subsequently beaten by locals. In reality, the claims are entirely baseless. Verified reports clarify that the incident stemmed from a dispute over suspected food poisoning at an NCC camp in Kerala, not harassment.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) serial fake news peddler and propagandist account @TacticalTribun wrote. โ€œIndian Army’s Lt Col Karnail Singh was caught harassing a girl in Kerala, and was thrashed by peopleโ€.

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the incident. We found that the incident was not related to harassment. 

To verify the claims made by propagandists. We performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the video using Google Lens. These actions led us to several media reports regarding the incident. 

According to reports (1, 2), the officer was assaulted over a dispute related to suspected food poisoning at an NCC camp in Kerala. A case has been registered against the attackers, and further legal action is underway. The incident was unrelated to any allegations of molestation or harassment.

As per the reports, on December 23, over 80 cadets from the 21 Kerala Battalion NCC fell sick following a suspected case of food poisoning at the KMM College in Thrikkakara. Following the claims, the two men along with others barged into the premises and assaulted Lt Colonel Karnail Singh of the NCC battalion.

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the incident was not related to the harassment of any girl as claimed by propagandists.
