Fact Check: Indian Official Warned IAF Over Tejas Delays After PAF Used JF-17 in Afghan Conflict

Pakistani propaganda accounts are circulating false claims alleging that an Indian official warned the Indian Air Force (IAF) to take strict decisions regarding Tejas project delays after the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) allegedly used JF-17 jets in the Afghan conflict. However, this claim is entirely false. There are no credible reports or official statements linking any such warning to PAF operations or Afghanistan.

An influencer account, @TacticalTribun, posted this claim, falsely suggesting that India’s defense establishment is reacting to PAF’s actions. The post was subsequently amplified by several other propaganda handles attempting to link unrelated defense developments to regional tensions.

Truth: IAF Chief’s Statement Misrepresented; No Link to Pakistan or Afghan Conflict

As this claim gained traction on social media, it drew our attention. The D-Intent Data Team conducted a thorough keyword analysis and reviewed credible media reports. Our findings led us to the Indian Express article titled “I am just not confident of HAL’: IAF chief Amar Preet Singh expresses displeasure over delay in delivery of Tejas aircraft.”
The report makes it clear that the IAF Chief was expressing concern about production delays by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL)—not issuing a warning related to Pakistan or any Afghan conflict. There is no mention of the Pakistan Air Force or JF-17 jets in any credible media source or official statement.
