Fact Check: Indian techie detained in Qatar, propagandists circulate misleading claims 

Pakistan-based anti-India propaganda accounts are spreading false claims that Qatar has arrested an Indian diplomat for spying on behalf of Israeli intelligence. However, these claims are entirely baseless and fabricated. Verified reports confirm that Amit Gupta, a senior Tech Mahindra executive, has been detained in Qatar since January 1, 2025. Additionally, the specific charges against him have not been disclosed.

Making a post on X (Formerly Twitter), serial fake news peddler and propagandist account @NavCom24 wrote, “BREAKING: Just in, Qatar successfully arrested an Indian diplomat for spying on behalf of Israeli intelligence.”

Another propaganda account, @shajahan_09, also made a post and wrote, “Just in, Qatar successfully arrested an Indian diplomat for spying on behalf of Israeli intelligence.”

The truth behind the claims shared as Indian diplomat, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the claims made by propagandists came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis regarding the claims. We found that the claims about an Indian diplomat being arrested in Qatar were false and fabricated.

To verify the claims made by propagandists. We performed a relevant keyword search and thoroughly investigated but couldn’t find any such report. However, during our research, we found reports (1, 2, 3) suggesting that Amit Gupta, a senior Tech Mahindra executive, has been detained in Qatar since January 1, 2025. The specific charges against him have not been disclosed. The Indian Embassy in Doha is actively providing consular support and remains in regular contact with Gupta’s family, legal representatives, and Qatari authorities.

Therefore, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that these claims about Indian diplomats were false and self-invented.
