Fact Check: Man arrested for fraudulently claiming ₹1,000 under women’s welfare scheme in Chhattisgarh, not West Bengal

Claims are being circulated alleging that actress Sunny Leone received ₹1,000 per month from the West Bengal government. However, these assertions are not true. According to verified reports, the incident occurred in Chhattisgarh, where Virendra Joshi fraudulently created a fake account using Sunny Leone’s name.

Making a post on X (Formerly Twitter) @dibyendux wrote, “The West Bengal government is squandering our tax money like Harir’s loot, while the government itself has borrowed hundreds of crores. How long will this go on?”

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a relevant keyword search and found multiple reports regarding the incident. According to the reports (1, 2), In a shocking case of welfare fraud, a man from Talur village in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar district was arrested for illegally receiving ₹1,000 per month under the Mahtari Vandan Yojana, a government scheme designed to provide financial assistance to married women. The accused, identified as Virendra Joshi, allegedly used fake documents and impersonated actress Sunny Leone to enroll in the scheme.
