Fact Check: Miscreants set fire to the Sri Amareswara Swamy temple in Bhupalpally, Telangana?

A video depicting an idol engulfed in flames is being widely circulated online, accompanied by claims that miscreants deliberately set fire to the Sri Amareswara Swamy temple in Bhupalpally, Telangana. These claims have sparked concern and outrage among the public. However, the local police have issued a statement clarifying the incident, stating that the fire occurred accidentally and was not the result of any malicious or intentional act. 

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter) @SVishnuReddy wrote. Yet another attack on a Hindu temple in Telangana, this time at Ambatipalli Amareswara temple. The burning of the Hanuman idol raises serious concerns about the safety and security of religious sites.

Propagandists account @ajaychauhan41 also shared the video and wrote. “Another Hindu temple attacked in Telangana, this time Hanumanji’s idol was burnt in Ambatipalli Amareshwar temple”. (Translated from Hindi)

The truth about the viral video about fire at Sri Amareswara Swamy temple, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis regarding the incident and found that the incident was unrelated to any attack on the temple.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video using Google Lens but couldn’t find any credible sources. Furthermore, we ran a relevant keyword search and found Bhupalpally Police’s statement regarding the incident. 

The police said, that on 21.11.24 at around 1600hrs, after Shanti Puja at the Hanuman idol in Ambatipalli Amareswara temple, after pouring oil in a coconut shell and lighting a lamp and placing it near the idol, the idol accidentally caught fire. The police said everyone is requested not to spread any falsified information. Police will take strict legal action for spreading rumours.

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the incident was not related to any attack on the temple. The fire was accidental, not a deliberate attempt to damage the idols.
