Fact Check: Misleading claims circulated about the Murder of Mahalaxmi in Bengaluru

In September 2024, Bengaluru witnessed a tragic incident involving the murder of 29-year-old Mahalakshmi. Her dismembered body, cut into numerous pieces, was discovered stored in a refrigerator at her residence in the Vyalikaval area. Now, claims have surfaced alleging that the accused in the September 2024 murder case of Mahalaxmi in Bangalore was someone named Ashraf. However, these claims are fake and fabricated, the accused in the murder of Mahalaxmi was identified as Mukti Ranjan Roy.

Sharing the photos of Shraddha Walkar and Mahalaxmi on X (Formerly Twitter) propaganda account @RealBababanaras wrote. “Secular and intellectual analysis of this photo: Ashraf is kinder than Aftab. He did only 32 pieces.”

The truth behind the claims related to murder of Mahalaxmi, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the photos and claims came to our attention. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis regarding the claims. We found that the accused in the Mahalaxmi murder case was Mukti Ranjan Roy, not Ashraf.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed relevant keyword searches and found multiple reports regarding the incident. According to verified reports (1, 2, 3) and police sources, the prime suspect was Mukti Ranjan Roy, who took his own life after committing the murder and confessed to the crime in a suicide note. Initially, in September 2024, several media reports and social media influencers falsely claimed that the accused was Ashraf. In reality, Mukti Ranjan Roy, originally from Odisha, was responsible for the crime and died by suicide after fleeing the scene, as per available sources.

Therefore, it is evident from verified sources that the suspect was Mukti Ranjan Roy, not Ashraf.

Influencers are circulating misleading claims about the murder of the woman in Banglore to set their narrative.
