Fact Check: Old Airstrike Video Shared as Recent Attack on BLA and IS Hideouts

A video showing multiple explosions in an open area is going viral on social media. It is being shared with the false claimthat it shows a recent military operation targeting Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and Islamic State (IS)hideouts. The video is being circulated with captions in Urdu that suggest these attacks are taking place in Pakistan, Afghanistan, or Iran, but the location has been deliberately left vague. However, this video is not recent—it has been online since at least 2012 and has no link to BLA or IS.

One such account, @Ulame_Deoband, posted:

“اطلاعت کے مطابق بلوچستان لبریشن ارمی فتنۃ الہند کے ٹھکانوں کو ملیا میٹ کیا جا رہا ہے۔۔۔
ابھی یہ بات نہیں بتائی جا رہی کہ یہ پاکستان میں ہیں افغانستان میں یا ایران میں۔۔”

This roughly translates to:
“According to reports, the hideouts of Balochistan Liberation Army (Fitna al-Hind) are being destroyed… It is not yet clear whether this is happening in Pakistan, Afghanistan, or Iran.”

Truth Behind the Viral Airstrike Video Circulated as BLA and IS Attack

When this post came to our attention, the D-Intent Data Team immediately launched an investigation. We conducted a frame-by-frame analysis and performed a reverse image search, which led us to the original source of the video. Our findings showed that the footage has been online since at least March 2012 and was first uploaded on YouTube, where early descriptions stated it depicts American forces bombing a village in Afghanistan. The video is not connected to any recent military operation and has no relation to the Balochistan Liberation Army or the Islamic State.

Therefore, the claim that it shows a recent airstrike targeting these groups is entirely false.
