Fact Check: Old image of PM Narendra Modi’s poster on a dumpster in Kuwait circulated during his visit

An image showing Narendra Modi’s poster on a dumpster, seemingly defaced with shoe prints on the face, has been shared online with claims that it is a recent photo from Kuwait during his visit to the Middle East. However, reports indicate that this is an old image from June 2022. Posters of Narendra Modi were placed on dumpsters following alleged derogatory remarks about the Islamic prophet made by Nupur Sharma during a TV debate.

Sharing the image on X (Formerly Twitter) @kkchn0778 wrote. “Garbage bins in Kuwait have images of PM Narendra Modi for the recent derogatory remark of his party spokesperson against the Prophet & other atrocities on Indian Muslims. What a great 56″ Vishwaguru”.

As soon as the posts containing the image and claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the image. We found that the image was not recent but old from 2022.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search using Google Lens. This led us to several media reports containing the same images. According to the media reports (1, 2), this is an old image from June 2022, when posters of Narendra Modi were placed on dumpsters following alleged derogatory remarks about the Islamic prophet made by Nupur Sharma during a TV debate.

During his visit to Kuwait, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the Order of Mubarak Al-Kabeer, the highest civilian award from the Kuwaiti government. The recognition was given in appreciation of his leadership in enhancing bilateral relations between India and Kuwait, particularly in trade, energy, and the welfare of the Indian community in Kuwait.
