Fact Check: Old Video Falsely Claimed as Charlie Kirk Shooter Fleeing

The viral claim suggesting that a video shows Charlie Kirk’s shooter fleeing the scene is false. The video is unrelated to the Utah Valley University incident and has been available online since at least July 29, 2025. Verified reports confirm that the clip actually captures the Grand Sierra Resort shooting suspect escaping on July 28.

The false claim was spread by accounts @AnissaBade47281 and @iamIMP_1, who captioned the clip: “New video surfaces showing Charlie Kirk’s real shooter escaping after the shooting🚨❗️#CharlieKirk #BreakingNews #CharlieKirkVideo #CharlieKirkShot.”

Another account, @InfinaAlerts, also posted the same video with a similar caption but later deleted the post.

Truth: Video Shows Reno Shooting Suspect, Not Charlie Kirk’s Attacker

As this claim gained traction, it drew our attention. The D-Intent Data Team investigated using reverse image search, frame by frame analysis and credible sources. Our findings led us to a Fox Reno report titled “Viral video captures Grand Sierra Resort shooting suspect running from scene.” The footage dates back to July 28, 2025, when a suspect opened fire at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada, before fleeing. The video was widely circulated online the next day, on July 29, 2025.

Additionally, one of the images shared alongside the clip was traced back to Wikipedia, under sections related to police brutality in the United States and racism against African Americans, confirming that it was also unrelated to the Utah shooting.

This proves the viral video has no link whatsoever to Charlie Kirk’s killing. It documents an entirely different event—the Reno resort shooting.

Intent:

Influencers are circulating unrelated videos with misleading claims to get the spotlight on social media over Charlie Kirk’s death.
