Fact Check: Old Video from 2021 Shared with Misleading Religious Claim

A video showing a group of injured individuals, some visibly bleeding, is being widely shared on social media with the claim that a Muslim family in Yamuna Vihar, Delhi was beaten by Hindus after they allegedly objected to the use of a loudspeaker during a Hindu religious event. However, this claim is misleading. The video is not recent—it is from June 2021, and the actual incident had no confirmed religious motive.

On June 22, 2025, accounts such as @Vini__007 and @SanataniMuslim_ circulated this clip claiming that a dominant Muslim family attempted to stop a Hindu event and were subsequently attacked. The narrative was used to portray a communal angle, suggesting that Hindus “peacefully taught them a lesson.”

This same video and narrative were previously circulated in 2021 by users like @adabehindustan and @cjwerleman, who falsely claimed that an armed Hindutva mob attacked a Muslim family, injuring 14, while shouting anti-Muslim slurs.

Truth Behind the Claim: Incident Was Over Gate Dispute, Not Religion

As the video went viral. it drew our attention. The D-Intent Data Team immediately began an investigation. Through reverse image search, frame-by-frame video analysis, and keyword research,we traced the clip back to a Times of India report from 2021 titled: “Clash between 2 groups after argument in NE Delhi”and an Indian Express article: “Delhi: Local residents clash over opening of C-7 block gate at Yamuna Vihar.”

According to these reports, the clash began after a dispute over opening a gate in the locality. A guard named Rajesh Mishra and a man named Vipin were involved in an argument. Later, Mohammad Yasin, whose house is near the gate, along with his relatives, reportedly assaulted Vipin. Vipin returned with his associates, leading to a violent clash between both sides. Police reports and media investigations confirmed there was no communal or religious angle involved in the incident.
