Fact-Check: Old Video from Bangladesh Falsely Shared as From India

A video showing an elderly person, seemingly a twin affected, begging on the streets is being circulated with the claim that it is from India. However, upon closer examination, we found that the video is actually from Bangladesh. Another clip of the same individual was shared by Bangladeshi accounts. The bKash logo, a mobile financial service in Bangladesh is visible in the background.

An influencer account @EnsignAshes posted the clip with the caption:

“In India, two hands are not enough. Imagine living your whole life with a partially formed twin hanging off your front. You keep having to slap that extra hand foot away. 🇮🇳”

The misleading caption led many users to believe that the video depicted an Indian beggar, further amplifying the misinformation.

Truth: Video Originates From Bangladesh, Not India

As the false claim gained traction on social media, it drew our attention. The D-Intent Data Team conducted a detailed frame-by-frame investigation. During analysis, we identified a bKash Limited signboard in the background — a clear indicator that the footage was filmed in Bangladesh. bKash (বিকাশ) is a mobile financial service provider operating under the authority of the Bangladesh Bank as a subsidiary of BRAC Bank PLC.

Further verification revealed that the same video was shared by a Bangladeshi Instagram user @abubokkor9632, confirming that the location is indeed in Bangladesh. Therefore, the viral clip has been falsely attributed to India and is being misused to spread misinformation.
