Fact Check: Old video from Hathras stampede shared as atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh 

A disturbing video depicting numerous dead bodies, mostly women, has been shared with the misleading claim that it shows atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh. However, this video is from a tragic incident in Hathras. On July 2, 2024, over a hundred people lost their lives in a stampede at a religious event. The video being circulated is from that event, not from the current situation in Bangladesh.

Sharing the sensitive video on X (Formerly Twitter), @FarazPervaiz3 wrote. “A #Hindu women in Bangladesh facing brutal rape and murder by Muslims, questioning international human rights response”. Later, he deleted the post.

As soon as the post containing the sensitive, disturbing video and claims came to our notice, we conducted research and analysis of the video and found that the video was not related to the ongoing violence in Bangladesh but an old video from Uttar Pradesh, India.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video on Google Lens. This led us to media reports and posts containing the same visuals, uploaded in July 2024. According to the reports(News18)and posts, the video is from Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras. Where more than a hundred devotees were killed during a stampede at a religious event on July 2, 2024. However, there are multiple reports of attacks on minority communities in Bangladesh but this particular video is not related to the ongoing violence.

Hence, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the sensitive video showing dead bodies is not from a crime against Hindus in Bangladesh. But an old incident from Hathras, Uttar Pradesh.

Social media users and influencers are circulating sensitive videos from different locations. And claiming to be from Bangladesh violence to set their narrative based on religion.
