A postcard purportedly showing information regarding the design of India’s national flag has been circulating online. It reads, “Surayya Tayyabji: The Muslim Woman who designed our National Flag. Surayya Tayyabji was a reputed artist who came up with the final idea for the Indian National flag. It’s high time we recognise her contribution and give her the credit that she deserves. English historian Trevor Royle in his book “The Last Days of the Raj” has written that the national flag was designed by Badruddin Tayyabji’s wife Suraiya Tayabji.”

The truth behind the viral claims of Indian national flag, Fact Check
As soon as the posts containing the claims came to our notice. Subsequently, we conducted research and analysis of the information and found that the claims were entirely false and baseless.
According to the verified sources(1, 2, 3) the Indian flag was designed by Pingali Venkayya. In 1921 he introduced his flag design to Mahatma Gandhi, featuring white, green, and red stripes and a Charkha (spinning wheel) in the center, although this design was not adopted immediately, it represented the unity of India’s diverse communities. In 1931 Venkayya’s flag underwent modifications, closely resembling the current national flag. The Dharma Chakra replaced the Charkha in the center. In 1947 Following independence, a committee led by Rajendra Prasad selected the final design of the flag. They adopted Venkayya’s design but replaced the Charkha with the Dharma Chakra, symbolizing law and righteousness.
Hence, it is evident from verified sources that the Indian national flag was designed by Pingali Venkayya, not Surayya Tayyabji.
