A video showing a crowd involved in a conflict has been circulating with claims that Muslims are targeting Hindus in the ongoing violence in Bangladesh. However, D-Intent Data has found that these visuals are actually from mid-July 2024, depicting a clash between security forces and protesters, and are unrelated to the Hindu-Muslim conflict.
Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter), Salwan Momika who is known for his anti-Muslim stance, wrote. Is this video in Bangladesh where Hindus are being genocided? The video’s description on the screen, reads “They are Hindus who are being subjected to genocide in Bangladesh by Muslims”. As of now, the post has received more than 690k views, 17.5k likes and a significant number of engagements.
The truth about the video from Bangladesh, Fact Check
As soon as the posts containing the video came to our notice, we conducted research and analysis of the video and found that the visuals were unrelated to the violence against Hindus in Bangladesh.
To verify the claims made by the users, we performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video which led us to media reports, and social media posts containing the same visuals, uploaded in the mid of July 2024. According to the media reports, this video shows violence during the students’ protest in Dhaka.
Hence, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the video doesn’t show violence against Hindus. But students’ protests against government authorities in Bangladesh.
