Recently a video depicting a large crowd attempting to cross barbed wires and fences has been circulating on social media platforms. Several users, influencers and propagandists have been circulating the video with the claim that following the violence in Bangladesh. Bangladeshi people gathered at the India-Bangladesh border in Assam to enter India. However, D-Intent Data has discovered that the viral video is not recent and has nothing to do with the ongoing violence in Bangladesh.
Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter), @jpsin1 wrote, “Thousands of Hindus from Bangladesh are jumping the border fence and coming to India. Welcome to India, But I would say that you all take up arms and fight the Islamic scoundrels.
The truth about the viral video of India-Bangladesh border, Fact Check
As soon as the posts containing the video and claims came to our notice, we conducted research and analysis of the video and found that the video is outdated and has no connection with the ongoing violence in Bangladesh.
To verify the claims made by the users, we performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video on Google which led us to a YouTube video containing the same visuals uploaded on May 21, 2015.
According to the YouTube video uploader this video was recorded during ‘Milan Mela’ on 15 April 2015. These people are attempting to cross the barbed wires and fences to participate in Milan Mela where Indians and Bangladeshis meet to exchange gifts yearly. The video titled “Illegal entry from Bangladesh to India at Milan Mela in West Bengal Uttar Dinajpur” and its description reads, Milan Mela 15/04/2015 at/Vill-Nargun, PS-Goal Pokher, Dist – Uttar Dinajpur, West Bengal, India.
However, following the violence in Bangladesh, the situation is not good at the India-Bangladesh border, Indian Border Security Forces have issued a high alert to all units along the 4096 km India-Bangladesh border.
According to reports, The BSF on Wednesday thwarted a significant infiltration attempt by a large group of Bangladeshis along the International Border (IB) in West Bengal.
Hence, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the video depicting a large crowd attempting to cross the barbed wires and fences at the India-Bangladesh border is not recent and has nothing to do with the ongoing violence in Bangladesh.
