Fact Check: Old video of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar being slapped by a youth in Bakhtiyarpur shared with distorted claims

Recently, a video showing Bihar CM Nitish Kumar being slapped by a youth in Bakhtiyarpur, Patna has gone viral on social media platforms. The video shows Nitish Kumar walking towards a statue to pay floral tributes. He reaches a small platform or dais in front of it and proceeds to climb the stairs. Suddenly, a young man wearing a grey T-shirt and dark trousers comes walking fast from behind, climbs to the dais and slaps Nitish on his shoulder while he is bowing down to place a garland in front of the statue. Users have shared the video and claimed to be a recent incident after the results of ‘General Election 2024’. However, D-Intent Data has found that the video is old and has nothing to do with General Elections 2024.

Social media users, influencers, propagandists and political workers have disseminated the old video of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar being slapped by a youth.

Sharing the video, @vilas1818 on X (Formerly Twitter) wrote. Nitish Babu got the reward for going with RSS and BJP!Now tell me. Is his respect left? The post has received 220k views, 2.9k likes and a significant number of engagements.

Another user Payal Gupta (@MissPayalGupta) has also shared the video and said, Breaking NewsSomeone slapped Nitish Kumar on his ear.

As soon as the posts containing the video of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar being slapped by a youth came to our notice, We did a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video on Google which led us to several media reports containing the same visuals.

According to the media reports, this is an old video from March 2022. The incident occurred when CM Nitish Kumar went to a hospital. He was offering flowers to a statue installed there. At that time a boy came and climbed up very fast and slapped the Chief Minister.

The Patna district administration issued a press release . And clarified that the youth who attacked the chief minister has been identified as 32-year-old Shankar Kumar Verma alias Chhotu. The youth was mentally ill and Nitish directed the officials not to initiate any action against the youth.

Hence, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the video is from March 2022 and has nothing to do with political revenge.
