Fact Check: Old video of ISKCON devotees distributing food among flood-affected people in Sylhet, Bangladesh falsely linked to recent flooding

A video has been widely shared with the claim that ISKCON devotees are currently distributing food to individuals affected by the recent floods in Bangladesh. However, D-Intent Data has found that this video is actually from June 2022 and depicts ISKCON devotees providing aid to flood-affected communities in Sylhet, Bangladesh. The footage, which has resurfaced, does not pertain to the recent flooding events in Bangladesh and is being misrepresented in the current context.

The old video circulated with misleading claims 

Several users, influencers and propagandists have shared the old video of ISKCON devotees distributing food among flood-affected people in Bangladesh. 

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter), propagandist account @RealBababanaras wrote. While Islamists burnt Iskcon temple in Bangladesh & beaten Sadhus a few days back. Here same Iskcon Sadhus are distributing relief materials to those who destroyed Hindu temples and idols amid flood situation across the Bangladesh. Over 10000 Muslims have taken shelter in temples.

Another propaganda account, @MrSinha_ has also shared the video and wrote, A week back IsIamists had set an Iscon temple on fire in Bangladesh. Now when the situation of Bangladesh has become worse due to the flood, Iscon temple sevaks distributing food among the same IsIamists.

The truth about the viral video, Fact Check 

As soon as the posts containing the video of ISKCON devotees distributing food to flood-affected people came to our notice. Instantly, we conducted research and analysis of the video and found that this is an old video from June 2022. 

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video on Google Lens. This led us to a Facebook post containing the same video uploaded in June 2022. The video was uploaded on a Facebook account named ‘ISKCON Youth Forum, Sylhet’. According to the Facebook post, ISKCON devotees distributed food among flood-affected people in Sylhet, Bangladesh, in June 2022. 

Hence, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the viral video is not recent but an old video showing ISKCON devotees distributing food to flood-affected people in June 2022. It has nothing to do with the recent flooding in Bangladesh.
