Fact Check: Old video of Pakistani boy being thrashed for molesting minor circulated with misleading claims

A video circulating online shows a man assaulting a young boy for engaging in an indecent act with a minor, with some portraying the accused as an Indian and using racist slurs against Indians. However, D-Intent Data has found that initial reports indicate that the video is actually from Gujranwala, Pakistan, and the boy involved is not Indian. The language and accent of those in the video suggest it is Pakistani, not Indian.

Sharing the video on X  (Formerly Twitter), @DecentraliseP wrote, “JEET CAUGHT TRYING TO RAPE A GIRL”. The post has received more than 7.4 million views, 67K likes, 6.4k reposts and a significant number of engagements.

Several other users have also disseminated the same post directed toward Indians. Their posts can be seen here, @FatPand16016022, @jugadorAsh

The truth about the viral video, Fact Check

As soon as the posts containing the sensitive video of a boy caught attempting to rape a minor girl came to our notice, we conducted research and analysis of the video and found that it is an old video from Pakistan.

To verify the claims made by the users, we performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video on Google Lens which led us to a YouTube video uploaded in July 2022. The video was uploaded on Sunrise TV and titled, “Gujranwala,  attempted rape of a 6-year-old girl in graveyard – case registered”. In the entire incident, the accused and others recording the video are speaking in a Pakistani accent.

Hence, it is evident from initial sources and video analysis that the incident was not from India, but an old incident from Gujranwala, Pakistan.
