Fact Check: Old video of young boys damaging railway tracks in Pakistan falsely shared as India

A video has been circulating recently that shows young boys either damaging railway tracks or engaging in theft, and it is being misrepresented as coming from India. However, initial sources suggest that this footage is actually an old recording from Karachi, Pakistan, and is not related to India.

Sharing the video on X (Formerly Twitter), Editor-in-chief of Sudarshan News, @SureshChavhanke wrote. At this age, they are digging up railway tracks. Think, what will they do in the next 50 years? The government should read and understand what Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar had said about them. Just chanting his name will not do anything. @AshwiniVaishnaw ji, give orders to @RPF_INDIA to shoot as soon as such acts are seen, only then will some fear be generated. (Videos location and date should be investigated immediately). ( Translated from Hindi)

Another user @XSecular_ has also shared the video and wrote. I don’t know where the video is from but you can identify the Sur puppies by their clothes @RailMinIndia @AshwiniVaishnaw. Sir, remove all the Muslims living in slums near the railway tracks, otherwise, these Jihadis will commit a big crime someday. ( Translated from Hindi)

The truth about the viral video of damaging railway tracks, Fact Check

As soon as the video of young boys vandalizing the railway tracks came to our notice, we conducted research and analysis of the video and found that the viral video was not from India but an old incident from Pakistan’s Karachi.

To verify the claims made by the users. We performed a reverse image search of some key frames from the viral video on Google Lens. This led us to a Facebook post containing the same video uploaded in December 2023. According to the Facebook post, this is an old incident from Karachi, Pakistan. The video was uploaded on a Facebook account named ‘Pakistani Trains’ with the caption. “Near Sir Taj Khan Pahatk Boat Basin Chowki, the valuable goods of the railway line are being stolen a lot. PS Boat Basin is requested to take this action.” (Translated from Urdu)

During research, we also found the same video on YouTube, uploaded in December 2023. According to the YouTube channel, this video is from Karachi, Pakistan.

Hence, it is evident from D-Intent Data’s Fact Check that the viral video is not from India, but an old incident from Pakistan.
